There are many reasons why you may be interested in joining a cycling racing club - from simply wanting to be a part of the sport and improve your fitness, to representing your country at the Olympics. No matter what your goals and aspirations, membership with the Club can help you achieve your goals and get more from your cycling.

Many people delay joining and getting involved because they feel they need to "get fit" first. If you are thinking a little along these lines remember that you do not have to be fit to start racing. By getting involved and participating in training and bunch rides you will get a better idea as to where you are at and we can help determine whether you are ready to start racing. Also, no matter how fit you get, there are basic racing skills that need to be acquired and these can take longer to develop than your physical fitness, so the sooner you can start training the better! And, when you do start racing, we encourage you to try and control your desire to win straight away, and "sit in" riding amongst the other riders to watch and learn.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES - In order to compete in any club, regional, state or national cycling event, you must have a licence (or temporary one) issued by our national governing body - the Australian Cycling Federation (ACF) often referred to as Cycling Australia (CA). On paying your fees, you will be issued with an official "licence" (a plastic card the size of a credit card) by Cycling Australia and this licence must be carried with you to all races and training sessions as proof of membership and hence insurance coverage. Cycling Australia offers three membership categories to suit serious racers, recreational riders, officials, volunteers and those who just want to be part of the action.

Race Licence/Membership

The Race licence holder can participate in races conducted by Cycling Australia and its affiliated states and clubs (event entry fees may be payable). Race licences are age restricted from under 9 to Masters 65+. Check the Cycling Australia Age Category table to confirm which licence is right for you. These licences are renewable annually and cover the calendar year (1 January to 31 December) in line with the International Cycling Union's (UCI) requirements. However licences purchased after 1 October are valid until December 31 of the following year.

Ride Licence/Membership

A Ride licence is a great way to get started. It allows you to participate in recreational rides, charity and fun rides, club training, coffee crew rides, Gran Fondo and Cyclo Sportif events, club run skills & development events and our Individual Time Trial events. You can enjoy a range of cycling activities and improve your skills and fitness. It's the perfect membership if you ride your bike for recreation but is also a good launch pad if you want to progress to racing in the future.

Non Rider Licence/Membership

Non Rider membership is designed to recognise the contribution of the coaches, officials and administrators who work and volunteer in the sport. It provides non-competitive membership for a minimal charge and includes professional indemnity insurance cover plus a host of other benefits. Non Rider membership is renewable annually and covers the calendar year (1 January to 31 December) in line with the International Cycling Union's (UCI) requirements. However licences purchased after 1 October are valid until December 31 of the following year.

Day Membership (1 – 3 Day Race Licence/Permit)

Entitles the rider to race 1 - 3 times, expires 3 months from the first event it is used for. Can be purchased here: Online with Cycling Australia. If a rider decides to upgrade to a full competitive licence you may be entitles to receive a rebate of the cost of a Permit off the cost of a full competitive licence. Ask Cycling Australia, email
